EVDIV 123 - Fundamentals of Violin Intensive Leslie Ashworth The summer Fundmantals of Violin Intensive offers a friendly and engaging introduction to playing the violin. This intensive welcomes those who may be starting to play for the first time and those who are returning to the instrument and wishing to strengthen their grasp of the fundamentals.
Technique Class
EVDIV 123 01
In Technique Class, students will focus on building a healthy and sustainable technical foundation. Each session begins with tailored technical exercises designed to improve posture, bow control, intonation, and left-hand coordination. As students grow more comfortable, the class will incorporate key music theory concepts specific to the violin, along with guided aural skills work to strengthen listening, pitch recognition, and musical understanding. Individualized attention within a small-group setting ensures that each student progresses at an appropriate pace.
Repertoire Class
EVDIV 123 02
In Repertoire Class, students will explore violin literature in a collaborative studio-class format. Each week, participants share the pieces they are working on and receive individualized feedback along with dedicated one-on-one instruction time. Emphasis is placed on musical expression, stylistic understanding, phrasing, and performance confidence. Students are invited to focus on repertoire they wish to develop over the course of the intensive, cultivating both technical fluency and artistic voice in a supportive group setting.
Throughout the intensive, students will strengthen their technical skills, expand their musical knowledge, and gain confidence performing for peers. Our classroom atmosphere is encouraging, focused, and joyful—creating space for meaningful growth while fostering a genuine love of music-making. No prior experience in reading music is required.
Students are strongly encouraged to consider registering for both sections of Technique Class and Repertoire Class to enrich their learning and playing experience.
