EVDOL 22 - The Piano Waltzes of Schubert, Chopin and Brahms Mirian Conti In the golden age of piano music, Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, and Johannes Brahms transformed the waltz from functional dance repertoire into a richly expressive, personal genre made for the concert hall. This course explores how each composer reshaped the form; Schubert with waltzes that feel spontaneous and songful yet harmonically adventurous, Chopin with his poetic miniatures that balance elegance with emotional depth, and Brahms with darker, earthier dances that pair intimacy with rhythmic complexity. Far from “light” salon music, these waltzes reveal a surprising range and offer a vivid window into how dance can become art.
