EVDIV 55 - Orchestration Intensive (In Person or Online)

The Summer Orchestration Intensive provides a fast-paced and hands-on opportunity for composers and arrangers who want to cultivate and refine the skills required to become an effective orchestrator. Subject matter may include deep dives into families of instruments, score analysis techniques, best practices for collaborating with performers, aural timbral recognition, and more. Through a combination of conversation, guest lectures, and laboratory settings, this offering aims to better prepare participants to enter the Fall and Spring Orchestration courses in the Extension Division with a confident understanding of the fundamentals of orchestration. Content rotates on a yearly basis and is curated to compliment the background of participants in each section.

*This class is presented in a hybrid format. Students must commit to attending either in-person or remotely via Zoom and are expected to remain in their selected mode for the duration of the course. Switching between attendance formats will not be permitted except under special circumstances and only with approval from faculty and Juilliard Extension administration. Class recordings will be available on Canvas to all students.

$600 plus $100 lab fee
