EVDIV 234 - Italian Diction and Repertoire

Donna Gill
Embark on a captivating musical journey as we delve into the rich world of Italian repertoire, ranging from iconic performers like Pavarotti and Bocelli to renowned composers like Bellini and Puccini. In this course, we explore a vast spectrum of Italian music, including early Italian songs, opera arias, and popular Italian songs in Neapolitan and other dialects. Through this immersive experience, singers will acquire essential skills in Italian phonetics (IPA) and witness how they come to life in the genre of Italian repertoire that resonates with you.

Our classes are structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phonetic structure of the Italian language as it applies to our chosen songs and arias. The first part of each class is dedicated to exploring the intricacies of Italian pronunciation, equipping each student with a solid foundation in vocalizing Italian texts. By mastering these skills, you will gain confidence in interpreting and conveying the true essence of the Italian language in your performances.

The second part of each class will be an interactive masterclass-style open coaching session. This format allows ample time for each student to work on their selected songs and arias, with valuable feedback and constructive commentary provided by both peers and instructors. Through this collaborative approach, you will refine your vocal technique, interpretation, and artistic expression, elevating your musical abilities to new heights.
