Opera Studies, Artist Diploma

The Artist Diploma in Opera Studies is the advanced opera program of the Marcus Institute of Vocal Arts. For a select number of singers, this program of study provides music coaching in all sung languages, stage craft, acting, and movement. Public performance opportunities as well as in-depth private performance classes and workshops are designed to prepare these singers for the demands of the opera profession.

Review and Evaluation

Young artists are evaluated consistently throughout the year. At the end of the first semester and again at the end of the first year, the faculty and administration of the Department of Vocal Arts will review the progress of each student and determine the suitability of renewing the singer’s participation in the program for a second year.

Artist Diploma Programs

The Artist Diploma program is the most advanced non-degree track, and provides focused studies for young artists in the pre-professional stages of their careers. Qualification to enter these programs is predicated principally on the level and quality of performance and/or achievement, rather than the attainment of specific academic credentials. The Artist Diploma in music concentrations is a two-year program. Young artists must be invited to continue their studies into the second year. A minimum of 52 credits is required to complete the Artist Diploma.

NOTE: Important statistics and disclosure information on all non-degree diploma programs are available on the Juilliard Web site.
