EVDIV 54 - Modern Jazz Technique Chris Heller Modern Jazz Technique is grounded in the principles of Simonson Jazz, a movement approach known for its emphasis on healthy body alignment, anatomical clarity, rhythmic precision, and expressive freedom. Designed for dancers of all levels, this class offers a supportive environment in which students can build a strong technical foundation while developing strength, coordination, musicality, and confidence.
Class begins with a structured warm-up that introduces core elements of Simonson-based training, then progresses into center work and combinations that explore jazz vocabulary, dynamic movement, and performance quality. Classes may include isolations, traveling phrases, rhythm work, turns, and expressive combinations.
The classroom atmosphere is energizing, inclusive, and encouraging, creating space for both challenge and enjoyment. Whether you are brand new to jazz or returning to dance after time away, this course offers a joyful space to grow as a dancer.
