EVDOL 18 - 250 Years of Great American Theater, Part I

Claire Karpen
This course invites theater lovers to explore the rich, diverse, and ever-evolving history of American theater through a curated selection of plays. Drawing on works by playwrights such as Thornton Wilder, Tennessee Williams, Lorraine Hansberry, Arthur Miller, August Wilson, Suzan-Lori Parks, Annie Baker, and more, students will examine each play’s historical context, production life, and continuing relevance, while engaging in guided discussion about how these works speak to audiences today.

Offered in two parts across the fall and spring semesters, each section is designed to stand on its own while contributing to a broader exploration of American theater. Whether joining for one semester or both, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the plays, artists, and ideas that have shaped the American stage.
