Discover the expressive world of J.S. Bach’s cantatas, one of the most remarkable bodies of vocal music in the Western tradition. This course explores several especially compelling works, including the Christmas Oratorio, Ich habe genug, and Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen. Through guided listening and discussion, students will encounter Bach’s extraordinary ability to unite poetry, theology, and music in works of profound beauty, drama, and emotional depth. Scores and audio recordings will be provided electronically.
