EVDOL 29 - Music of the Silk Road

Deborah Bradley-Kramer

Set out on a journey along the Silk Road, where music became the heartbeat of an ancient world in motion. This was no ordinary trade route. It was a 6,500 mile tapestry of caravans and camel bells, desert winds and mountain passes, where songs, stories, and rhythms moved as freely as silk and spice. Guided by Yo-Yo Ma’s question “What if music could be a map of empathy” we will uncover the daring encounters of musicians who crossed borders of language, faith, and empire. You will hear the echoes of Persian courts and Chinese opera houses, feel the pulse of Sufi lodges and Mongol steppes, and drift into the lullabies of Armenia and the ragas of India. Together we will follow the trail of merchants, mystics, and artists who turned sound into a shared human adventure and discover how these timeless exchanges still inspire the music of the world today.
