EVDOL 21 - Keyboard Literature in Concert: Connections, Part I Lisa Yui Western classical piano music is full of fascinating links: friendships, rivalries, teacher-student relationships, family ties, and influences that reach across centuries. This course explores those relationships through solo piano music, showing how composers inspired, challenged, and transformed one another’s ideas. Topics include Haydn and Mozart, Chopin and Liszt, Robert and Clara Schumann and Brahms, Bach’s influence on later composers, and more. Through guided listening, historical context, discussion, and live performance, students will hear how musical ideas travel through lessons, friendships, homage, imitation, and reinvention. Each class features live performances by pianists, including Juilliard students and alumni.
Open to all music lovers; no prior musical training is required.
