EVDIV 234 - French Diction and Repertoire Donna Gill Embark on a captivating musical journey as we delve into the rich world of French repertoire, exploring romantic composers such as Gounod, Fauré, Ravel, Debussy, and many others. Through this immersive experience, you will acquire essential skills in French phonetics (IPA) and witness how they come to life in the genre of French repertoire that resonates with you.
Our classes are structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phonetic structure of the French language as it applies to our chosen songs and arias. The first part of each class is dedicated to exploring the intricacies of French pronunciation, equipping each student with a solid foundation in vocalizing French texts. By mastering these skills, you will gain confidence in interpreting and conveying the true essence of the French language in your performances.
The second part of each class will be an interactive masterclass-style open coaching session. This format allows ample time for each student to work on their selected songs and arias, with valuable feedback and constructive commentary provided by both peers and instructors. Through this collaborative approach, you will refine your vocal technique, interpretation, and artistic expression, elevating your musical abilities to new heights.
As the semester progresses, you will witness your growth and artistic development culminate in a class recital. This final performance, held during our last week of class, will be open to guests of students.
