EVDIV 11 - Elements of Music Theory and Analysis

In this ​non-credit course, music theory fundamentals will be introduced with the goal of students developing a deeper understanding of the building blocks of music.​ Topics include, but are not limited to: notation, symbols, names of notes through fixed-do solfège, clefs, key signatures, major and all three minor scales, modal scales, intervals, triads, and seventh chords as well as an introduction to four-part writing, analysis, and modulation. Students ​learn to read​ simple scores and apply basic skills learned in class through discussion and analysis.

This class requires extensive preparation through completion of weekly assignments​ that are designed to prepare individuals for Juilliard Extension’s credit-bearing music theory curriculum for high school students.

This course is one semester in length. Students receiving a passing grade will progress to Music Theory and Analysis I.
