EVDIV 11 - Elements of Music Theory and Analysis Melanie Williams In this non-credit course, music theory fundamentals will be introduced with the goal of students developing a deeper understanding of the building blocks of music. Topics include, but are not limited to: notation, symbols, names of notes through fixed-do solfège, clefs, key signatures, major and all three minor scales, modal scales, intervals, triads, and seventh chords as well as an introduction to four-part writing, analysis, and modulation. Students learn to read simple scores and apply basic skills learned in class through discussion and analysis.
This class requires extensive preparation through completion of weekly assignments that are designed to prepare individuals for Juilliard Extension’s credit-bearing music theory curriculum for high school students.

This course is one semester in length. Students receiving a passing grade will progress to Music Theory and Analysis I.
