EVDOL 32 - Sirens of the Cinema: Lena Horne, Doris Day, Julie Andrews & Ann-Margret (Online) Edward Barnes This course looks at the lives and careers of four iconic singers who became leading ladies in some of Hollywood’s greatest movie musicals. Each session explores a singular star, starting with Lena Horne (“Cabin in the Sky”, “Stormy Weather”, “The Wiz”), followed by Doris Day (“Tea for Two”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “April in Paris”, “Jumbo”), Julie Andrews (“Mary Poppins”, “The Sound of Music”, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, “Victor/Victoria”), and Ann-Margret (“Bye Bye Birdie”, “State Fair”, “Viva Las Vegas”). From these leading ladies’ early days on the stage to working their way up the Hollywood ladder of success and appearances on television, in nightclubs and on Broadway, sessions will explore the lives and careers of each leading lady, their individual singing-acting vocal techniques and styles, the movie musicals they made famous, and the performance qualities which made them legends.
