EVDOL 31 - From Cabaret to Chicago: The Musicals of Kander & Ebb Edward Barnes One of the most successful songwriting teams of all time, John Kander and Fred Ebb worked together for five decades, creating multiple Tony Award-winning musicals, some of which went on to become Oscar winning films. This course follows their lives and careers, from their first meeting, in a music publishing office in 1962, through their early success with “Cabaret”, then on to the iconic “Chicago,” and innovative “Kiss of the Spider Woman”. Classes also explore Kander and Ebb’s artistic association with director-choreographer Bob Fosse and Fosse’s impact on their work, as well as their relationship with singer-actresses Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera, for whom they created emblematic film, television, and theater projects including ”The Rink”, “The Act”, “Liza’s Back,” and “The Visit”.
