EVDIV 415 - Introduction to Music Technology (Online) Nathan Prillaman This course is an introduction to the practical requirements needed to create and produce music using Apple’s Logic Pro software. Topics include, but are not limited to, audio and MIDI sequencing, digital notation, sampling, digital sound recording, editing, and processing. Weekly exercises are assigned to promote understanding of individual techniques. A final project serves as an opportunity for students to combine their learned skills with their existing musical interests. Students receive hands-on training with the software covered in the course. Additional training includes guest speakers with experience in composition, film scoring, synthesis/sound design, and other careers in digital music. Group discussion is a central part of each class.
This course offers both credit and non-credit options. Students can register for either section based on their preference. Credit students will receive graded assignments throughout the semester, culminating in a final letter grade. Passing credit students earn Juilliard Extension credits, which are recorded on their transcripts and apply toward certificate requirements.
Prerequisite: Basic Mac knowledge. Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll.
