EVDIV 161 - Advanced Essentials in Conducting (In Person) Mark Shapiro An effective conductor possesses musical understanding and the means to communicate it. This course is designed for instrumentalists, singers, and composers with some prior training in the fundamentals of conducting. Students consolidate their conceptual foundation while sharpening practical skills (including beat patterns, cuing, and score preparation) to lead rehearsals and performances. The course paves the way for advanced study or practice in any repertoire or situation: orchestral, choral, opera, classical, contemporary, musical theater, film, or worship. Each semester includes three sessions with string quintet and one session with a larger group of about 10 players.
This is a yearlong course. Students may join in either fall or spring; however, spring placements are contingent on midyear vacancies. Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll.
