EVCRT 211 - Music Theory and Analysis II: Principles of Form Ruka Shironishi This course examines principles of formal structure from the smallest phrase units to complete movements in binary and da capo forms. These principles are illuminated through the analysis of examples drawn from music literature of the 18th and 19th centuries as well as through model-composition assignments. Prerequisite: Music Theory and Analysis I, or equivalent. Applicants should have knowledge of the following concepts: four-part writing including predominant harmonies and cadential six-four; roman-numeral analyses of an excerpt in multiple structural levels; first-species and second-species counterpoint. Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll.
