This course aims to help students see their training and their art in a larger context—historical, political, and artistic. Students examine the work of artists from theater and other art forms (dance, music, architecture) and engage with scientists, politicians, and activists, both in person and through screening documentary films. On a number of evenings in the first semester, the class as a group attends museums, concerts, or other cultural events in the wider city. Through these encounters with multiple points of view, students develop their own perspectives as actors, artists, and citizens.
