THMUS 211H — Honors Theory II: Chromatic Harmony and Analysis I4 credits Spring Christina Lee
Prerequisite: THMUS 111H . This course presents an advanced study of chromatic techniques of the late-18th and 19th centuries, including modal mixture, augmented-sixth chords, enharmonic reinterpretation, and common-tone modulation. Analysis of selected compositions drawn primarily from the first half of the 19th century, including music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Schumann. The musicianship component continues, with an emphasis on chromatic harmonies.
