The Juilliard School is committed to enrolling talented young performing artists and helping them achieve their highest potential. To that end, the School wishes to enable all admitted students to attend, regardless of their ability to pay. Juilliard’s admissions policies are “need-blind,” meaning that applying for financial aid will not hurt a student’s chances of being admitted. In fact, about 85 percent of admitted students receive scholarship support through the School. While we are unable to meet the full need of all who apply, every effort is made to assist as many students as possible.
There are three general sources of financial aid: grants and scholarships (which do not have to be repaid), loans (which must be repaid with interest), and jobs. Funding may come from federal, state, institutional, or private sources. A summary of available major programs can be found on our website.
All prospective students are encouraged to apply for financial aid at the time of audition. The Office of Financial Aid will review all complete applications and determine each student’s eligibility for federal and state grants, loans, and on-campus employment, and, together with the Scholarship Committee, will consider students for Juilliard scholarship. All scholarship decisions are based on a combination of the financial need of the student and his or her parents (when applicable) and the student’s artistic and academic merit.
To apply for financial aid, prospective students must complete the CSS Profile application and send income documentation for themselves and their parents to the Office of Financial Aid. In addition, U.S. citizens and permanent residents must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All forms are due by March 1.
Continuing students must reapply each year by May 1 in order to be considered for the full range of financial aid available. Students who apply on time should expect similar financial aid packages each year if they have not experienced a major change in financial circumstances. In addition, students receiving financial assistance must remain in good academic standing and maintain satisfactory academic progress each year. Please refer to the Student Handbook for specific policy guidelines. The Juilliard School does not discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, political beliefs, national origin, or disability.
Students who have any questions or special concerns are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid Office at (212) 799-5000, ext. 211, or send an email to financialaid@juilliard.edu.
