String Quartet Studies, Artist Diploma

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: All Programs

The Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies enables an already established string quartet to move from serious study of the repertoire toward a professional career as a teaching and performing quartet.

Curriculum

Coachings and assignments are under the supervision of the Juilliard String Quartet. The resident quartet performs on numerous Juilliard concerts, as its schedule permits. An annual formal recital in Alice Tully Hall is required in the spring semester. Members also serve as teaching assistants to Mr. Carlyss and the Juilliard String Quartet.

Review and Evaluation

The resident quartet is evaluated by members of the Juilliard String Quartet. Decisions regarding the quartet’s continuation in the program for a second year are usually made by the middle of the second semester.

Artist Diploma Programs

The Artist Diploma program is the most advanced non-degree track, and provides focused studies for young artists in the pre-professional stages of their careers. Qualification to enter these programs is predicated principally on the level and quality of performance and/or achievement, rather than the attainment of specific academic credentials. The Artist Diploma in music concentrations is a two-year program. Young artists must be invited to continue their studies into the second year. A minimum of 52 credits is required to complete the Artist Diploma.

NOTE: Important statistics and disclosure information on all non-degree diploma programs are available on the Juilliard Web site.
