In this captivating lecture series, renowned psychiatrist and concert pianist Dr. Richard Kogan explores tthe profound connection between music, creativity, emotional resilience, and the modern American sound through the lives and legacies of George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein. Through vivid storytelling, insightful analysis, and live musical examples, Dr. Kogan examines how these trailblazing composers transformed personal pressures, public expectations, and private struggles into groundbreaking works. From Gershwin’s genre-defying blues-infused scores to Bernstein’s urgent, humanist musicals and symphonic dramas, these lectures illuminate music’s power to clarify, comfort, and connect.
