EVDOL 33 - Great Oratorio Composers

Travel from Handel’s London to Berlioz’s Paris in this eight-week dive into the oratorio. Each session pairs a vivid historical snapshot with close listening to a single masterpiece—Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Christmas and Ascension oratorios, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust, and Berlioz’s fiery La Damnation de Faust. Along the way, you’ll hear how choruses, solo arias, and orchestral colors expanded over two centuries, turning biblical and literary stories into some of the most thrilling music ever written. No prior knowledge of the subject matter is necessary.
