EVCRT 424 - Music Theory Elective: Guided Composition Through the Lens of Music Theory (Online) Jordyn Carmen The theory curriculum reveals how centuries of master composers were able to develop standard forms and instrumentations that are still in general use today. Yet each composer was able to add something small to the traditional structure, and through these analyses, we can learn to compose like the greats! This class is intended for new composers who may have only dabbled in composition in theory classes but are looking to expand their craft by sticking to traditional forms and instrumentations, writing in a similar style to composers of the past few centuries. Throughout the course, students will refresh their knowledge of these structures and compose short works in the forms of the prelude, fugue, theme and variations, aria, and sonata form, scored for piano, voice, string quartet, and woodwind quintet.
