EVDIV 241 - Piano Class
Patrick Kreeger, Matthew Odell, Mika Sasaki, Assaff Weisman, Art Williford, Lisa Yui
In this class, students explore classical piano technique, style, interpretation, memorization, and performance practice in a master-class group setting. Each section of this class is limited to four students. Active listening, discussion, and attention are critical elements of group piano classes. Informal performances are given throughout the semester, and department-wide seminars featuring guest experts and master teachers round out the learning experience. Students are placed according to playing ability and potential to contribute to and enhance a positive group learning dynamic.

Pre-requisites: A basic knowledge of rhythmic values (i.e. whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note, etc.) and the ability to sight-read at the piano in both treble and bass clefs with both hands playing together.
This is a yearlong course. Students may join in either fall or spring; however, spring placements are contingent on midyear vacancies.
Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll. Application deadline: Tuesday, September 2 @ 5pm ET.

Please note: This is the current schedule of classes, and class times and sections are subject to change. Placement into a section is determined based on availability and matching students with like students of the same level.
Each section of piano class consists of 11 class sessions, inclusive of one end-of-semester recital.
