EVDOL 22 - Masterpieces of Expression: Romantic Piano Sonatas by Schubert, Chopin, and Liszt Mirian Conti Lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and profound emotional depth define the Romantic period, one of the most innovative eras in music history. This course explores the artistry of three iconic composers who embody the Romantic spirit: Schubert, the bridge between Classical restraint and Romantic expression; Chopin, the universally celebrated poet of the piano; and Liszt, the first superstar virtuoso. Students will analyze the scores and take an in-depth look at Schubert’s poignant final piano sonata, Chopin’s evocative Piano Sonata No. 2, and Liszt’s groundbreaking B-minor Sonata, and in so doing will uncover the passion, innovation, and artistry that shaped Romantic piano music.
