EVDIV 251 - Guitar Symposium Mark Delpriora The Juilliard Extension Summer Guitar Symposium is designed for multilevel students, though some experience playing classical guitar is expected. The symposium consists of the following elements:
- Guitar technique: How to improve the overall technique of each individual student by revisiting basic principles and trying more advanced techniques.
- Ensemble playing: This is a multilevel class, but each student should at least be able to read the notes of the guitar in first position. The ensemble parts will be disseminated according to reading level.
- Master class: Individual performances of pieces of various levels are encouraged and will take place in a master class format. Each student will perform a classical guitar piece for the class and we will discuss how to improve it technically and work out musical ideas.
- History and literature: We will discuss the repertoire and activities of the great guitar players of the past such as Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, Fernando Sor, and Mauro Giuliani.
