EVDOL 21 - Keyboard Literature in Concert: the 20th Century (Part 1) Lisa Yui Part 1: Late 19th Century to 1950
Who influenced the direction of 20th-century piano music? This course explores the evolution of piano music from the late Romantic works of Liszt to the innovative compositions of Debussy, Ravel, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Copland, and others. We will focus on how these composers expanded the expressive possibilities of piano music as Romanticism transitioned into modernism. All works will be performed live in class by guest pianists, including Juilliard students. No prior knowledge of the subject matter is necessary.
