EVDIV 231 - Voice Class/Solid Singing for Every Performer

Kurt Alakulppi, Jane Olian, Andrea Covais, Tharanga Goonetilleke
In this course students learn vocal technique, performance skills, and are introduced to the vast vocal literature of art song, opera, oratorio, and musical theater. Each class begins with a vocal warm-up, and the remaining time is spent on the repertoire assigned to each individual singer. Students are assigned repertoire that will best facilitate their development as a singer/performer. Designed to address the needs of singers at all stages of development, these classes comprise singers selected from auditions and placed according to ability and experience. This is a yearlong course. Students may join in either fall or spring; however, spring placements are contingent on midyear vacancies. Placement application required for new students.

Voice classes are 13 weeks per semester and take place one per week with sections available Monday through Thursday as well as Sundays; sections will be determined upon placement. Fall semester classes will begin the week of September 15.

Please note, the 12th voice class will be dedicated to the recital day scheduled for December 8. The room location and time are yet to be determined (TBD).
