EVDOL 21 - Keyboard Literature in Concert: Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas Pt. 2

Beethoven’s monumental cycle of 32 piano sonatas traces his growth as a composer, the evolution of the sonata form, and the development of the piano as an instrument. We will explore the sonatas individually, from No. 21 (“Waldstein”) of 1804 through his last sonatas of the 1820s. Each class will culminate in live performances by various pianists, including Juilliard college students. The ability to read music is recommended for this course, but not required.
