MSMUS 613 — Baroque Chamber Music2 credits Fall or Spring Charlie Weaver
This course introduces modern performers to the methods and practices of the historical performance movement. Each week, small group performances will be followed by a discussion of the issues raised in playing Baroque music: instrumentation, choosing editions, ornamentation, phrasing, rhythm, dynamics, and the role of improvisation. Featuring guest visits by Historical Performance faculty and students and culminating in a final concert, the course will consider the differences in instrument construction between modern and Baroque instruments and how these differences might influence performance decisions.
