EVDOL 072 - Bach’s “Goldberg Variations”
Worlds within worlds can be uncovered, interpreted, and discovered in the aria and in 30 variations of J.S. Bach’s monumental work the Goldberg Variations (BWV 988). In this course, we will examine each variation to unlock Bach’s genius and as we explore the depth of technical mastery in his writing. This course will explore the historical context of the work, circa 1741, and how it typifies musical forms of the late Baroque period. Ability to read music is recommended. The course will also have live demonstrations of parts of the work as well as examine various interpretations by great performers. No prior experience necessary.
