Music Production


Music Production at Juilliard Extension is where the fusion of artistry and technology collide. Our program goes beyond traditional music training, equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century music industry.

We delve into the latest software and hardware used by today’s music professionals. From film scoring and immersive sound design to industry-standard software like Logic, Finale, and Sibelius, our courses offer a comprehensive toolkit for the contemporary musician.

At Juilliard Extension, we understand that mastery of digital tools is crucial for those seeking to break new ground in music production. Our courses provide a solid foundation for those with no prior experience with music technology, as well as advanced courses for musicians with an existing background in creating projects in this field. These courses assist musicians enhance their competency with digital technologies and unleash their creativity in innovative ways

Music Production

  • EVCRT 415 - Introduction to Music Technology (For-Credit)


    Nathan Prillaman
    This course is an introduction to the practical requirements needed to create and produce music using Apple’s Logic Pro software. Topics include, but are not limited to, audio and MIDI sequencing, digital notation, sampling, digital sound recording, editing, and processing. Weekly exercises are assigned to promote understanding of individual techniques. A final project serves as an opportunity for students to combine their learned skills with their existing musical interests. Students receive hands-on training with the software covered in the course. Additional training includes guest speakers with experience in composition, film scoring, synthesis/sound design, and other careers in digital music. Group discussion is a central part of each class.

    Prerequisite: Basic Mac knowledge. Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll.

  • EVDIV 515 - Music Production


    Elliot Cole
    Designed for those with some experience using computers to make music, this course provides a creative space for developing skills in electronic music production. Students study works of other composers, compose their own works, and receive guidance and feedback. Technical aspects of creating music with MIDI, sampling, effects, and recording will be explored in service of students’ particular interests and goals. Prerequisite: Basic Mac knowledge. Placement application required unless pre-approved to enroll.
