EVDIV 331 - Art Song and Operatic Performance Seminar

Tharanga Goonetilleke
An effective vocal performance requires more than memorizing the words and notes of a song. Successful singers choose repertoire that is varied and appropriate for their voice; translate and interpret a song’s poetry in order to convey its meaning; and closely study the accompaniment in order to unlock the song’s full musical expression. This coaching and repertoire-building seminar helps singers develop their skills in performing the great art song and operatic literature in English, French, German, and Italian. Through one-on-one coaching and group discussion, students learn a methodical approach to mastering both text and music and are guided through winning strategies for rehearsing and performing with confidence and artistry. The course culminates in a final in-class recital of the repertoire studied.

This course requires an online application to be considered for placement.
