EVDIV 251 - Guitar Symposium Mark Delpriora The Juilliard Summer Guitar Symposium is designed for multilevel students, though some experience playing classical guitar is expected. The symposium consists of the following elements:
- Guitar technique: How to improve the overall technique of each individual student by revisiting basic principles and trying more advanced techniques.
- Ensemble playing: This is a multilevel class, but each student should at least be able to read the notes of the guitar in first position. The ensemble parts will be disseminated according to reading level.
- Master class: Individual performances of pieces of various levels are encouraged and will take place in a master class format. Each student will perform a classical guitar piece for the class and we will discuss how to improve it technically and work out musical ideas.
- History and literature of the guitar: We will discuss the repertoire and activities of the great players of the past such as Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, Fernando Sor, and Mauro Giuliani.
No application is required for the Guitar Summer Symposium.
