EVDIV 516 — Performing With Ableton Live

Elliot Cole
This course is an introduction to using Ableton Live for real-time music performance. No prior knowledge of Ableton is required: we begin with the basics and then explore different aspects of live performance including sampling, remixing, live looping, audio effects, midi controllers, backing tracks, generative music, and strategies for integrating acoustic and electronic performance together. All styles of music are welcome. By the end of the course, students design their own performance systems that further their own artistic interests and goals. Basic computer skills and a laptop with Ableton Live software required (Intro level or above); depending on students’ goals, an external midi controller may also be recommended during the course. Placement interview required.
