EVCRT 413/414 — Advanced Composition
Conrad Cummings, Dalit Warshaw, Milica Paranosic
Designed for the most advanced composers, this course provides students with the opportunity to work with six different Evening Division composition faculty members. After a joint introductory session at the beginning of each semester, the course progresses in four-week units as follows:
Conrad Cummings Sept. 27 – Oct. 18
Dalit Warshaw Oct. 25 – Nov. 15
Milica Paranosic Nov. 22 – Dec. 13
Each four-week unit culminates in a reading with Juilliard instrumentalists and/or vocalists and is recorded; music technology projects are produced and recorded by students as part of the unit. With this multiplicity of perspectives, students gain a sense of the range of compositional possibilities, aesthetics, and methods of realization current in the wider world of composition, sharpen their own compositional identities, and continue to build a public for their work. Extensive outside preparation is expected. Students can enter in either semester. Placement interview required. Prerequisite: Composition, Orchestration, and Music Production With Logic I or equivalent experience.
