EVDOL 013 — Dance Stars of Lincoln Center: Agents of Change (1983-2000)

Henning Rübsam
A new era of dance at Lincoln Center started in the 1980s. Longtime artistic directors of both American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet departed and guest artists stayed away. Stars were either local dancers or came as visitors with other ensembles. Only at the very end of the decade did A.B.T. welcome back international stars, and a new generation of dancers from Spain and Latin America started to infuse Lincoln Center with brilliance and enthusiasm. This course examines the careers of some of the finest dancers in the two decades leading up to the new millennium. Some of these exemplary agents of change will visit the class and report on their extraordinary careers. Film footage and rich archival material will prepare students for informed and lively discussion.
