EVDIV 234 — Introduction to Diction
Whether singing in one’s native tongue or in a foreign language, being able to communicate-and properly enunciate-the text of a song is vital to a successful vocal performance. This course begins by introducing students to the basic elements of proper diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet. In the first half of the semester we focus on correct pronunciation and vocal production of the English language and the application of these skills through weekly vocal coachings of repertoire with an emphasis on clarity and precision. In the second half of the semester we study the Italian language and repertoire in the same manner. Advanced Diction will be offered in the spring semester. Placement audition required.
