EVDIV 131 — The Basics of Singing

Andrea Covais
Have you always wanted to learn how to sing, but for whatever reasons, never took the plunge? This course is designed for those with minimal singing experience and focuses on building a basic understanding of the fundamentals of vocal production. Students learn body awareness, how to control the breath with more   freedom, and how to achieve a better tone quality. In addition, students learn what is expected of those auditioning for the Evening Division Voice Classes and are coached in the skills needed to achieve that goal. Two short one-on-one sessions during the semester help students recognize their individual strengths and   weaknesses. Students also gain experience singing for others by presenting work on two songs regularly in front of the class. This class provides students with a tool kit for pursuing further vocal study privately or in a group setting.
