EVDIV 062 — How To Have A Career In The Arts

Barrett Hipes
What are your artistic goals and how will you achieve them? How can you balance your career dreams with the reality of making a living? What are the mindsets and attitudes of thriving artists? What is your definition of success? Through case studies, guided exercises, and presentations, this course, which is intended for emerging professional musicians, is designed to inspire new modes of thinking that encourage students to identify and cultivate their career potential. Students also engage in moderated discussions with successful performers and arts entrepreneurs. In addition to six class meetings, all students will receive an hourlong one-on-one career consultation with the instructor, who is the director of Juilliard’s Alan D. Marks Center for Career Services and  Entrepreneurship.
