In these classes, students explore classical piano technique, style, interpretation, memorization, and performance practice in a master-class group setting. These classes are limited to four students per section. Active listening, discussion, and attention are critical elements of group piano classes. Informal performances are given throughout the semester, and three department-wide seminars featuring guest experts and master teachers round out the learning experience. Students are placed in levels according to playing ability and potential to contribute to and enhance a positive group learning dynamic.
Faculty: Peter Dugan, Jihea Hong-Park, Matthew Odell, Mika Sasaki, Assaff Weisman, Yi-heng Yang.
