In these classes, students explore classical piano technique, style, interpretation, memorization, and performance practice in a master-class group setting. These classes are limited to four students per section. Active listening, discussion, and attention are critical elements of group piano classes. Informal performances are given throughout the semester, and three department-wide seminars featuring guest experts and master teachers round out the learning experience. Students are placed in levels according to playing ability and potential to contribute to and enhance a positive group learning dynamic. Not subject to N.Y. Philharmonic discount.
Auditions are required to place students in the proper level course. Students should prepare two contrasting pieces, which do not need to be memorized. Please see suggested audition repertoire below and schedule an appointment online at
January 17 and 18, 5 – 7pm
All piano classes are yearlong (10 weeks per semester), though students may join in either fall or spring.
Spring semester classes begin the week of January 30.
